The community consultation process, in particular, has been of interest because it is a powerful mechanism with the potential to accelerate refugee welcome.

Creating greater community understanding and support for refugees means that the receiving community needs to hear and learn from refugees themselves. This interactive and practical webinar provides guidance on practices, tools, and processes that promote the inclusion of the diverse refugee community. Strategies covered include approaches to community outreach, meeting facilitation, inclusive event design, and reflective follow-up and evaluation that encourage community engagement and leadership.

2014 Welcoming Institute: Leaders Building Community Support for Refugees

In late August, 33 participants from diverse backgrounds and geographic locations joined Welcoming America for its second annual Welcoming Institute: Leaders Building Community Support for Refugees in Atlanta, Georgia.  During this intensive, one-day training, participants attended interactive seminars around creating welcoming communities through contact building, engaging leadership, and communications strategies. Participants will continue to connect with each other through quarterly learning circle calls throughout the next year.

2013 Welcoming Institute: Leaders Building Community Support for Refugees

23 participants from diverse backgrounds and geographic locations joined Welcoming America for its first Welcoming Institute: Leaders Building Community Support for Refugees training in Chicago, Illinois.  Participants spent a day participating in interactive trainings around creating welcoming communities through contact building, engaging leadership, and communications strategies.
